*Sharon Porter
has been in private practice and training practitioners in Energy Medicine since 1973 and is a popular teacher.  Her courses are process oriented, challenging, deep and entertaining. Student Comments at end of email.

** Trauma
is defined as anything that overwhelms the nervous system, creating incomplete fight/flight/freeze responses and a myriad of emotional and physical symptoms affecting every aspect of life. Somatic Trauma Resolution is an effective, creative, safe and efficient way to heal the physiological and other effects of trauma and overwhelm. Using the principles of Nature, it restores resiliency to the nervous system so that one is much less affected by the stresses and set-backs of life. STR is based on Somatic Experiencing®, in which Sharon is certified, but STR is deeply informed by Sharon’s decades of work in Polarity Therapy, Yoga, Self-Care, Craniosacral Therapy and her remarkable skills and gifts in Energy Medicine.  As Sharon demonstrates STR, her hands are moved from off-body by many energy phenomena occurring in the client’s field, so students quickly learn the energy and tissue relationships with thoughts, feelings and expressions. This makes her lecture-demonstrations particularly interesting.

 Modern neuro-science
has confirmed that trauma responses are driven by the survival instincts of the hind brain, whose language is bodily sensation. Practitioners learn to guide the client to become mildly curious about their sensations in a way that opens neural pathways and allows shock and trauma-bound energy to gently discharge, often as trembling. The whole body/mind is then supported to reorganize to a higher level of health.  Wave after wave of this charge-discharge cycle occurs in a typical session. Foundational approaches are later applied to categories of trauma such as physical and sexual abuse, emotional shocks and losses, falls, accidents, disasters and more. As experience is gained, the practitioner can also be quite effective by phone. From a Lecture Attendee:“I was stunned at the power and naturalness of the approach. I felt it in my body when you took us through an experiential exercise, and then I took it into my life. A couple of sessions with you released birth trauma I had worked on with countless practitioners through 35 years!”                          FOR PRIVATE SESSIONS CALL 310-821-8212

Comments from recent STR students and graduates:
“This work is changing lives in such deep, profound ways - even in one session alone.  The person comes back entirely transformed.”

“STR has completely changed the way I work with my clients – I know how to help them access their creativity and healing power in a whole new way.”

“Not only has my way of being with clients changed, but my life has changed in ways I would have considered miraculous before I took this course and learned how to do it.”

“Trauma is at the root of everything, and once you can release it, all other therapeutic skills become more effective.”

“Your STR training is juicy, inspiring, challenging and fascinating!”

“Your love is intelligent and respectful. Your teaching is not one ray of light; it’s the spectrum.”

“You pull off the difficult challenge of managing process in the classroom while
teaching us to process.”

STR Level 1A lays the foundation for this work: How the nervous system works in health and when overwhelmed. Using Sensations to drive the loop between a trauma vortex and a resource vortex for safe discharge. Boundary Exercises out of context to make it safe to be in the body. A practice protocol for working with a small challenge, to become skillful with the process before working with serious traumas. Tracking oneself.

STR Level 1B shows how traumas couple onto each other, and how to safely uncouple them, which works with dissociation and panic kinds of responses. How to coach the client to effectively ride their emotions and other expressions via awareness of sensation. How to titrate the release of anger and physical tension arising from frozen defensive responses, so the client isn’t afraid of these powerful forces. Pacing with time, voice tone and volume, posture, presence, intention and containment.

Level 2 continues to refine the above skills while building on these skills in layered learning by applying them to aspects of experience that require special consideration:

2A: Communicating with younger aspects of self (Inner Child), Gestalt for relational traumas, Rebalancing Power, Softening and Slowing down Falls. A Balanced Container from Core Process Psychotherapy.

2B: Sexual, Physical and Emotional Abuse, Incest, Domestic Violence, The Family

2C: Vehicle Accidents – their coupling to each other and to other traumas. Application of STR to Bodywork and Healing. (Those who need further help applying the STR to their particular profession can pay for additional coaching sessions)

2D: Intro to Birth and In Utero Experience, Disasters, Review and Refinements

July 18, 2009 Breast and Lymph Health.  Effect of bras on lymphatics, exercises and bodywork on self to keep lymph healthy.
