Strong skills in the areas of Holistic Health Education,
Energy Medicine and Somatic Psychotherapy. Has developed
a unique style that combines traditional, holistic and
creative approaches to resolve trauma and restore health.

CURRENT PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Private practice for thirty years in Somatic Psychotherapy
and Energy-Based Bodywork, currently in Pagosa Springs
and Durango, Colorado and Santa Monica, California. Bodywork
and Body-Centered Psychotherapy for adults, adolescents,
children and infants. Short and long-term approaches. Applies
Somatic Experiencing, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy,
Polarity Therapy, Gestalt, and Inner Child work, enhanced
with subtle energy tracking. Lifestyle counseling and stress
release exercises.
Seminars and professional training programs for therapists,
bodyworkers, others in helping professions, and laypersons.
Upcoming courses include:
∑ Somatic Trauma Resolution
(STR) based primarily on
Somatic Experiencing, for professional
therapists, emergency and medical
personnel and bodyworkers in five
modules. Integrates classical SE
with Sharon’s experience in
bodywork and energy medicine.
∑ Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy,
intro and ten module Foundation Course, currently doing
intros for a new course. STR courses are listed on
the CSTA/NA website as advanced courses.
∑ Polarity Therapy Bodywork courses, currently developing
courses to be taught on the Jicarilla Apache and Ute reservations, as part of
their rehabilitation programs. Native Americans have recently responded with
enthusiasm to her Polarity presentations at these reservations.
∑ A new State Approved school, Health Wave Institute,
that will offer a more extensive range of Advanced Courses in Energy Therapies,
including the above subjects.
New
courses include Birth Dynamics, The Process Workshop,
Pre and Post-Operative Trauma Work, Intro to Emotional
Freedom Technique, and an Energy Medicine Integration
course after taking several other trainings Porter offers.
Presentations on aspects of Energy Medicine at
conferences,
including Science and Consciousness Conference (Albuquerque
2002, 2003), American Polarity Therapy Association
(1996, 1999), Craniosacral Therapy Association of North
America (2003), and for the Jicarilla Apache and Southern
Ute reservations .
Writing a book on Processing in Energy Medicine. Chapters
on pre-natal and birth dynamics, incest and other childhood
traumas, rape, domestic violence, auto accidents, falls,
and energetic phenomena such as cellular release of
long-held anesthesia and alcohol, and the smells that
are eliminated from the body during processing.

TRAINING AND CREDENTIALS
Most significant professional credentials and certifications:
∑ Certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) from
Foundation for Human Enrichment, Peter Levine Ph.D. primary instructor. Teaching
Assistant for first three courses of Levine's training. Also studied SE with
Pat Ogden, founder of Hakomi Integrative Somatics. SE is a primarily non-touch
approach to healing trauma and the nervous system.
Additional
Somatic Psychotherapy trauma courses taken include: Advanced
course in Core Process Psychotherapy with its founder,
Maura Sills of Karuna Institute in England; Level I and
II Holographic Memory Resolution Trauma Training with
Brent Baum, Ph.D., its founder; Pre and Peri-natal Birth
Trauma work from William Emerson, Ph.D. Psychology and
Ray Castellino, D.C., both leaders in the birth field;
two Summer Institutes with Stanley Keleman, D.C. and
author of Emotional Anatomy and other classic Body Psychotherapy
texts.
∑ Registered Craniosacral Therapist (RCST®) in Biodynamic CST,
Franklyn Sills primary teacher. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy works directly
with trauma in the nervous system. TA for several Sills Foundation and Advanced
courses and is approved by the Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America
(craniosacraltherapy.org) as a teacher of the two year Foundation RCST ® course
and Advanced Courses. Additional Craniosacral training from the Upledger Institute
(CST I, II and Advanced and Somato Emotional Release; TA for all but the Advanced
course).
∑ Registered Polarity Practitioner (RPP), approved by
American Polarity Therapy Association (APTA). Polarity combines energetic touch
bodywork, nutrition and exercises, with understanding of the electromagnetic
influence on mind and spirit. Also teach this work. Honored in 1995 by the American
Polarity Therapy Association as a "Pioneer in the field of Energy Medicine".
Numerous advanced courses, plus a two-year study group with five other respected
Energy Medicine innovators/teachers from U.S. and Europe.

∑ Has written educational articles for numerous publications, including
Yoga Journal.
∑ Co-founded a health institute that from 1974-86 offered therapeutic
retreats and Polarity Therapy training programs at retreat centers owned
by a community Porter co-founded. Locations in Fall River Mills CA, Doe Bay on
Orcas Island WA, Calistoga CA, and Murrieta Hot Springs CA. This institute was
in 1976 the first vocational school approved by the State of California to certify
Natural Health Educators. Developed related health education centers up and down
the West Coast.
∑ After becoming a popular and innovative teacher of Hatha Yoga, developed
the teaching of Polarity Yoga, the self-care aspect of Polarity Therapy that
is great for stress relief, energy balancing, and prevention of chronic problems.
Trained practitioners who teach these efficient, more Western, energy-based exercises
in many countries. Also trained in Restructuring Exercises developed by Caroline
Brown to correct body usage problems caused by high heels, and female fashion.
∑ Through thirty years of teaching, have developed the ability to feel
and allow my hands to be moved by subtle energy fields, including sub-atomic
activity both in and around the human body, and to recognize resonance tone qualities
in the field. This ability accelerates therapeutic growth at all levels as well
as enhancing the learning process for students and attendees at conferences where
my energy field demonstrations are given.
